Film Review: Captain Marvel

The best thing about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that above all else it is always fun going back to that world. Even though Captain Marvel treads a lot of new ground the hallmarks and overall feeling of the MCU don’t go away.

Marvel have made roughly 7 individual superhero origin movies since they started making films just over a decade ago. Captain Marvel is the first to buck the trend of not only a male protagonist but not have the hero discovering their powers as the result of some sort of self-centred-ridding emotional journey. Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers starts off her journey kickass and then only proceeds to become more kickass.

This film is refreshing and fun and a welcome addition to the MCU. Sam Jackson (with help from some incredible CGI) gives a fantastically different performance as Nick Fury with the likes of Ben Mendelsohn, Clark Gregg and Lee Pace also delivering the goods.
